About Us
The Fruitvale School District is located in northwest Bakersfield. Founded in 1895, the District includes Columbia Elementary, Discovery Elementary, Endeavour Elementary, Quailwood Elementary and Fruitvale Junior High Schools, and has a current TK-grade 8 enrollment of 3,062 students.
The Fruitvale School District has a long-held reputation of striving for excellence in its programs for students. All of the District’s schools have been named as California Distinguished Schools. In total, the District has been recognized by the State for exemplary schools 19 times. Our schools have been awarded California Gold Ribbon Schools, National Blue Ribbon Schools and Fruitvale Junior High has been selected as a National Schools to Watch by the California Department of Education and California League of Middle Schools.
The Fruitvale District School Board, staff members, and parents are committed to providing high- quality programs and ongoing instructional improvement. Specialist programs include: Title I, English Language Development, Resource Specialist Program, Special Day Class, speech pathology, occupational therapy, vocal and instrumental music, physical education and 1 to 1 Chromebooks in every grade. Fruitvale students have won numerous State History Day Championships and 20 gold, silver or bronze medals at the National History Day competition in Washington, D. C. during the past 25 years. Students have also been very successful at the annual State Science Fair and other local competitions with County placements.
Extended Day Class and after school enrichment programs are offered by the District. Fruitvale and North Bakersfield Parks and Recreation District cooperate in an extensive after-school sports program, and in the joint use of a pool and softball complex next to Fruitvale Junior High. A new gymnasium was built at the junior high for district-wide use.
Columbia Elementary School was named as a California Distinguished School and as a Gold Ribbon School by the California State Department of Education. In addition, Columbia, through its partnership with Boeing International, developed a sister-school programs with Montgomery Elementary School in Atlanta, Georgia. Discovery Elementary School has been recognized as a California Distinguished School and as a Gold Ribbon School by the California State Department of Education. Discovery was also named a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence by the U.S. Department of Education. Discovery also has an ongoing partnership with Boeing International. Located at 7500 Vaquero Avenue in the Riverlakes Ranch Development south of Hageman Road, Discovery School services 737 students in grades TK-6.d, Columbia School services 560 students in grades TK-6.

Endeavour Elementary School also has an ongoing partnership with Boeing International. Endeavour was named a California Distinguished School and as a Gold Ribbon School by the California State Department of Education. Located at 9300 Meacham Road in the Calloway Country subdivision on Meacham Road, east of Calloway Drive, Endeavour School serves 697 students in grades TK-6. | |
Quailwood Elementary School has been recognized by the California Department of Education's Distinguished School Program and was named a National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education and a Gold Ribbon School. Quailwood is truly a neighborhood school. Located at 7301 Remington Avenue in the Quailwood subdivision north of Stockdale Highway, Quailwood serves 365 students in grades TK-6. | |
Fruitvale Junior High has won the California Distinguished Schools Award, the National Blue Ribbon School Award, and the Gold Ribbon School Award. In 2018 and 2019 Fruitvale Junior High was selected as a National Schools to Watch. As at the feeder elementary schools, Fruitvale Junior High students are very successful in speech, math, history and science competitions at local, regional and county levels. Located on Calloway Drive south of Rosedale Highway, Fruitvale Junior High serves 703 students in grades 7-8. |
